I want to continuously change the rigid tool orientation during the machining in Abaqus. what strategy can be used to accommodate tool orientation in Abaqus/Explicit? How can I provide both translation and rotation for the tool simultaneously?

Greetings,

If both translational and rotational displacement has the same amplitude. Simply apply the Displacement/Rotation boundary condition and toggle on any degree of freedom you want with any value. But, if the translational and rotational displacement has different amplitude, for example, one must be applied smoothly and the other linearly, you should define two boundary conditions. Remember, in this case, do not toggle on the degree of freedom you specified in the first boundary condition. For example, you defined the first boundary condition and specified the U1 direction. In the second, leave the U1 direction be.

Also, you can refer to the links below. They will help you to better simulate the forming processes and other stuff.
